5 DIY Plumbing Basics Everyone Should Know

WinifredHowell November 24, 2020 0 Blog, Commercial Air Conditioning

Being a homeowner is not an easy task these days as routine maintenance and minor repairs carried out by companies cost a lot. That’s why there is so much value in learning basic home repairs yourself so that rather than calling professionals you yourself can do the job for free. Here are 5 DIY plumbing basics that everyone should know.

Learn How to Turn Off The Water Valve

To keep your house away from flooding in case of any leakage, it is necessary to cut off the water supply and to do that we need to know the location of the main water valve, and have the necessary knowledge to operate it. Individuals must know that there is a main water supply valve and then there are independent valves on each pipe as well. Learning how to open and shut the valve is a very simple task which once learned can save you from flooding nightmares.

Learn How to Fix a Broken Pipe

Water pipes are prone to more damage in extreme weather conditions. For instance in winter, water freezes, expands and bursts the pipes. Harsh weather can also cause severe leakage from joints and unions. Fixing a pipe is no rocket science. It just requires the proper tools and adequate knowledge. If you notice a broken pipe with deeper problems, it’s advisable to hire a professional.

Learn How to Remove an Airlock

Having an air lock in the water system, like pipes and geysers, of the house is a very common problem. This problem occurs mostly when water geysers are being used for heating of water and water finishes in pipes, owing to which a vacuum is generated inside the pipes making air bubbles, eventually blocking the flow of water through them. Even when you fill up the water tank again there would be no running water in taps unless the airlock is removed. To remove an airlock operate an air releasing valve present on water geysers.

Learn How to Clear a Clogged Toilet

One of the most common plumbing issues in your everyday life is a clogged toilet. Dealing with this problem is gross, embarrassing and stressful. Problems arise when some toilet paper or any other material is preventing proper flow of water out of the toilet bowl. At first it seems like a very difficult task but when the proper technique is learnt, it can be a piece of cake. Try plugging the clog using a toilet plunger or plumbing snake. If the clog does not remove, that means the obstruction is way beyond the level of plunger, therefore, you need to call a plumber east brisbane.

Learn How to Clean a Shower Head

After a long, tiring and stressful day only a good shower is all that is required to freshen up. Imagine meeting a distasteful surprise in the form of a clogged shower. Before calling in a professional or changing the shower head for low water pressure, first try to put your shower head in vinegar and leave it overnight. Mineral deposit blocking the jets will be removed. If need be, you can try to clear them with a toothpick. Your shower will now work as a perfectly new one.

Air Conditioners, How to Use Them Safely in Times of Pandemics

WinifredHowell September 2, 2020 0 Blog, Commercial Air Conditioning

A Guide to the correct use of ventilation and air conditioning systems during the current health emergency. It is supplied by AREA , the European Association representing 26 national associations of refrigeration technicians, and over 110,000 associates, and ATF , the Italian association of refrigeration technicians.

AREA and ATF wanted to deny the rumor according to which ventilation and air conditioning systems would help spread the COVID-19 virus inside the rooms, an element never proven by any scientific study.

The main transmission vehicle of the virus – they recall – remains the respiratory droplets, mainly through direct contact, and secondarily through the infected surfaces: the aeration and ventilation systems can, on the other hand, not only favor the exchange of air inside the environments , limiting the possibility of contagion by dispersing any concentrations of infected particles in the environment, but, with the arrival of summer, they will help to reduce the effects of thermal stress , which makes various categories at risk much more prone to possible infections.

One of the fundamental recommendations that AREA and ATF have indicated is to rely only on duly trained and qualified personnel to sanitize and maintain the air conditioning systems.

The goal is to provide both technicians and end users with a picture of the situation free from excessive alarmism, but which at the same time guarantees to those who use ventilation and air conditioning systems, a series of advice on how to operate safely .

Many of the measures indicated in the document are standard practices of good use , which should be adopted and followed even in conditions of normal use.

Air Conditioning Systems, From MCE Lab the Advice to Sanitize Them

WinifredHowell September 2, 2020 0 Blog, Commercial Air Conditioning

In anticipation of the arrival of the summer heat, it is important to understand how to proceed with the sanitation of air conditioners and ventilation systems.

MCE Lab , the platform of MCE Mostra Convegno Expocomfort dedicated to the themes of residential comfort, energy efficiency and environmental sustainability, provides advice for a complete cleaning of all heating / cooling appliances.

Air conditioning systems: how to disinfect
According to MCE Lab, in order to carry out a thorough disinfection of the appliance it is important to clean filters, bodies, fans and batteries of the air conditioners with a sanitizing product .

Disinfection of the battery must be done with caution, so as not to damage the slats, which are rather delicate. MCE Lab suggests to start by disassembling the body of the air conditioner (the front part of appliances known as split): open it, remove the filters and you can proceed with washing using neutral detergents to which you can add a part of ethyl alcohol.

Once the filters and the body have been removed, the exchange coil can also be cleaned and disinfected , an operation that can be carried out with various specific products easily available on the market. The filters, on the other hand, can be cleaned in warm water , simply by placing them under a tap in the opposite direction to the air intake.

Finally, MCE Lab suggests steaming the sanitizer on the slats at a distance of about 10 cm. At the end of the operation, and once well dried, we can reassemble all the pieces, paying attention to the most delicate parts.
